Transform Your Vision: Master Lighting with Dave Sanford's Renowned Workshop

While teaching Reference Photography at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) – a rigorous 10-week course – Week 9 featured an exclusive lighting demonstration in my 3000 sq ft commercial photo studio.

This hands-on session consistently became the most celebrated and impactful class of the entire program.

One student, a painter and illustrator, shared: “What a game-changer. In just two hours, you completely changed the way I see light. This was truly life-changing for my work.”

Many students echoed similar reactions, describing having profound “aha” moments that elevated their artistic eye forever.

The Seminars: Intro, Intermediate and Advanced teach photography concepts and skills.

Whether you’re a beginner honing skills or an experienced photographer/painter seeking refinement, the deep dive into masterful lighting techniques delivers transformative insights that benefit artists across mediums.

The photos to the left show the set-up for the photo below.  We shot the Blue Yellow lady on spec and presented it to Duggal Visual Solutions in NYC.  They bought the image and it became  the back cover for Photo District News (PDN).

We couldn’t get the look the art director wanted in Photoshop, so we used body paint on the model.
