B&W Film Class | The Zone System For Roll Film

Learning how to shoot and process black and white film requires more effort, knowledge and skill than shooting digital images.  With film, there is no instant feedback.  You can’t look at the image and make adjustments.  You have to make decisions about the scene or subject, decide what is the lightest white you want detail in and what is the darkest part of the image you want detail in.  Then you have to know the limits of the film you’re using and how to expose the film with the end result in mind.

If you shoot black & white film, and have is processed at a lab, it will cost more and produce inferior results than processing the film yourself.

After the initial investment of buying the tank, thermometer, Developer, stop bath and fixer: developing B&W film yourself costs about $1.00 per roll.
